Making Flowers with Fondant

Now I'll show you how to make some little accent flowers to decorate our beautiful princess doll cake. I'm going to make a whole bunch of little white flowers to decorate the dress of our princess doll and we'll make a few other colored ones to add a little bit splash of color and make a little bouquet. This is a little cookie cutter that is attached to a punch. And this is one of my favorite flower making tools. You just punch in and then, when you put it down on the work surface, the punch pushes a little bit of a hole in the middle of the flower and it also makes the flower curl up. So, if you make a whole bunch of these and you just punch and press it on to a drying surface, somewhere to leave them to dry, they'll get a little hard so that you can just pick them up and place them on your cake. So you can make a lot of these. You can even make these ahead of time and store them in a cool dry place. You don't want to store them in your refrigerator. You just store them in a plastic container in a cool dry place and they'll last for quite a while and you're ready to decorate any cakes with these pretty flowers and you'll be all set. So, I've made a bunch of white and now I'm going to make some leaves. I have a leaf punch which is a similar thing, where you can punch it out and it makes a little leaf mark. So we'll give our Princess Barbie a little bouquet. And I'm going to make some leaves to go on our bouquet. And again, you just you press it and then punch it out. And we'll let that dry. I'll make a few more other colors just for some accent color. You can just roll it out about an eighth of an inch thick and make sure it's not sticking to the board. Add a little bit of confectioner?s sugar and dust it a little bit on the top and the bottom with confectioner?s sugar and punch. Oops, that one didn't come out so we'll have to remove it. Start again. And you just go through and you can make lots and lots of these little flowers. This punch also comes in different shapes. Now you can also use just little mini cookie cutters to cut flower shapes or you can mold them yourself.
