Intermediate Tap Dancing: Toe Stand

Hi, I'm Emily Larew, we're continuing on with our intermediate tap steps and time steps. What we're going to take a look at right now is how to do a toe stand. So the best way of how to practice a toe stand is to grab a bar, or if you don't have a bar at home, grab a stool, a chair, your bed, whatever in order to practice this, okay? Probably not best to use your TV or anything that's going to fall over on you, okay? Unless someone's at home to help you. So, here we go. Your feet are just going to go up on a toe stand, it's so simple. You just need to make sure that you keep your knees bent, and your ankles strong. If you have weak ankles, you're going to want to warm them up with our tap warm up that we've done at the first clip that we've ever done, together. So make sure that you are nice and warm and your ankles are nice and sturdy, not weak. So, you're going to use your bar. You're going to go up on your toes, keeping your knee bent. All you're going to do is push straight up. You're going to go over your toes. So as you can see, my weight's not forward, 'cause otherwise if I let go of the bar, I'm just going to fall and topple right on over. So it's very important that you're compensating, bending forward so my knees are over my toes, but that I'm also sitting back so I can balance here on my toe stand. Okay? So again, what you would normally do is you might want to go, shuffle, step, shuffle, ball change, step, woo! And down. You know from a ball change, or you might do a step stop. But again, you're just going to go up on your toes. Toe, stand. So two sounds. Toe, stand. Toe, stand. You could even do a single one. So good job. Those are your toe stands.
