What Not to Do: How to Drive a Standard Manual Transmission: Free Video

This is Rob with Expert Village and this happens to you when you are starting to learn how to drive a clutch, don’t get deterred, it happens to the best of us. The clutch comes out too fast, you don’t give it enough gas and the car just dies. Push the clutch back in, start the car and now you just got to get gas. Now if you apply too much gas, you spin the tires. You don’t need that many revs to get a car going. This car in particular you don’t even really need any. I can get the car going without even hitting the gas at all. It will even start like that but some cars won’t and if you start going and it does that, you know you are doing something wrong. The thing you are doing wrong is you are not giving it enough gas to get the car going. So if you get the revs up to about 1500, you hold it at 1500, start to let the clutch out the car should go fine. Too many RPM’s are not good. You are going to put unnecessary wear and tear and on the vehicle. That’s two wrong ways to get your car going. One is too much gas and one not enough. You need to be just right.
