Hi! This is Rob again with Expert Village. One of the reasons people buy a manual transmission cars is it gets better gas mileage than automatics. One way to optimize better fuel mileage is to start out in a higher gear. If you are on a hill as we are right now, you can start the car going, start out in second gear, get moving, you want to shift right to fourth and if you want to just go from 1st, 3rd, to 5th, that is another way to get the most out of your mileage and save some wear and tear on your transmission. Start in 1st, you just drive a little bit up to 3,000 RPM’s, shift to 3rd; you can barely hear the difference between shifting right into 2nd and from 3rd, I can go right into 5th gear and you can barely hear the difference. I would not suggest this for a beginning driver but once you get proficient in your transmission shifting abilities, you can start shifting gears and missing gears as you are going. The less RPM’s you have to keep the car going the better mileage you are going to get. As you are driving and you want to bypass some gears, once you get proficient with your transmission shifting, it is an option for you to use.
Thanks for your time and advise!, these videos were very usefull for me, if you have any other videos like these please keep me informed. Best regards

Very good series, thank you for taking the time. I'll definitely show these to my daughter before she drives me new car. One suggestion: how about tips on how to drive a manual in heavy traffic (stop and go). Thanks again.
very helpful tips
i thought skipping gears really wears our your synchronizers...and dosen't it take more gas to rotate the larger gears? therfore making gas mileage worse?
