Hello! This is Rob again with Expert Village. One of the most intimidating things about driving a manual transmission car is hills. You have to stop at a stop light like in San Francisco or some other hilly areas; it can be real scary to drive a manual transmission car. So I am going to give you a lesson on how to use your emergency brake to help you get going without stalling. Okay, here we have a hill; let’s see what we can do. Okay, you have a stop sign. Now you are stuck at this light, cars behind us, the light is going to turn green, don’t panic. Put on the emergency brake which will keep the car stopped while we take our right foot off of the brake and we can put it near the gas, so we can be ready to go. It’s just going to take an extra hand. Put your right hand on the emergency brake, you hold the button, now you don’t need to have your foot on the brake, you have your foot on the gas but as soon as you feel the car start to grab with the clutch, you release the emergency brake and you can pull forward without having to roll backwards. Once you get proficient in driving a clutch, with just a quick release of your feet, you can get going on a hill without having to use the emergency brake. You ready?
Thanks, Thanks, Thanks a lot Rob. I live in India and just got a new stick shift car. Less than a week after watching this video, I had got myself into a situation where i had to park my cark in the basement of a mall. There was a long queue and I had to stop on an incline. All thanks to you, I was able to pull my car out without any hassles. I just can't tell you how grateful I feel!!.
