Using a Dictionary & Thesaurus for Writing a Non Fiction Book

I’m Bobbi Linkemer on behalf of expertvillage.com, and I’d like to invite you to visit my website at writeanonfictionbook.com. People overuse the word “that.” They put it where it doesn’t go, and then there are just the standard kind of mistakes that we all make using when 2 words are spelled the same, or look the same, or sound the same… using the wrong one. I don’t think that there’s any substitute for a good dictionary and a good thesaurus. This is a writer’s thesaurus put out by Oxford, and it is absolutely marvelous. I know there’s a whole generation of people who will go immediately to the internet to find what they’re looking for. There is a thesaurus online, but I guess I’m giving away my generation, which isn’t too hard to figure out anyway, but I reach for a book. Then I may augment it with the internet, but when you have a book like this or this is the Chicago manual of styles, it’s an awfully expensive book just to find out if you’re putting your commas in the right place. But it’s worth it to have the right resource books so that your editor doesn’t have to do as much.
