Starting Movements for Afro-Cuban Dancing

On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Alex Ruiz from Miami Beach, Florida with Salsa Mia dance studio, and today we’re going to teach you Afro-Cuban music. Alright, so now let’s continue with our posture. Like I said in the previous clip, I told you to keep your hands here. Anytime you do Afro-Cuban, in the beginning you’re going to keep your hands here. You’re going to bend your knees a little bit. Now, like I said before, we’re going to work from the waist up. Remember men, when you’re dancing you want to mostly show your chest. Now, the way that I’m going to be facing, I’m not going to be facing straight forward. I’m going to bend my head a little bit. Now, what we’re going to work on is on our ribcage. We’re going to go from one side to the next. This is a great workout for your abs and it also stretches out all your muscles. Anytime you do Afro-Cuban, you’re going to be using muscles you never used before. What I want you to do, you’re not going take yourself with your shoulders. You’re going to push yourself with you ribcage. As you can see, I’m not using my arms; all I’m using is my ribcage from one side to the next.
