The Starting Stance for Afro-Cuban Dancing

On behalf of expertvillage.com, my name is Alex Ruiz from Miami Beach, Florida with Salsa Mia dance studio, and today we’re going to teach you Afro-Cuban music. Okay, so now we’re going to be working on the posture you should have any time you dance Afro-Cuban. First of all, your body has to be very relaxed when you dance Afro-Cuban. Now, like any other type of dance, you’re always going to stand at the beginning straight so you can relax. The first thing you should do always is just relax your shoulders first and relax your waist. Any time you do any type of dancing, especially Afro-Cuban, you’re either going to work from the waist up or from the waist down. Men, what you’re going to be doing is you’re going to start from your chest anytime you start dancing. If you see from this angle, the way I’m going to stand on my position is I’m going to keep my hands level here. I’m going to pretend like I’m holding on to something, so make sure your hands are here. Keep them here. Now, from here you’re going to lean your chest forward and you’re going to make sure that you bend your knees a little bit. This is going to be your main position anytime you start doing Afro-Cuban.
