Direction of Feed With a Fixed Base Power Router

Hi! This is Jon on behalf of expertvillage.com. In this video clip, I will be talking about direction of feed. The direction of feed is very important when routing. It can make the difference between a successful job or a ruined project. A general rule to follow is to move the router in a counterclockwise direction on an outside cut. So if I’m cutting the outside of this board, I’m going to want to make sure to move in a counterclockwise direction. I’m going to start here and I’m going to go around my work piece in a counterclockwise direction. If you’re making an inside cut, you want to make sure that you go the other way or clockwise. In addition, when you’re routing, what I like to do when I’m traveling along, I will go ahead and move my router off the work piece when I’m done with one edge.
