Sitar String Names

The strings are as follows: the main string which is the second one from the bottom if you are holding it this way. That is tuned to C Sharp and some instruments might be tuned to C but for Sitar it really works better to tune it to C Sharp. The main playing string called the Baj is a fourth below or it would be in Indian terminology it would be Mah this is Sah Doh Fah. Then as you are going up to the third string this is a fifth up from your Sah from your C Sharp. Soh This is two Octaves really below. The Doh or C Sharp. Then again you’ve got the fifth the Fah or So. An Octave higher than this one: and then again you’ve got two Sahs Dohs in higher Octaves. These two strings are called Chikari and they have a specific function which is kind of a rhythmic attack. I will show later on.
