Official Golf Etiquette Rules

Hi Gene Mortensen and I'm talking to you about getting a better understanding of the rules of golf. At the very beginning of each of the rules books you would find a section on etiquette of the game. I like to review a couple of those previsions to give you a understanding of how important it is for you to remain safe and at the same time give consideration to other players as they play there round of golf. One of the most important part so etiquette would be to locate yourself in a position where you are safe and not in a place where you could distract the fellow player in your group or at the same time be in danger of being hit by a golf ball or a club which is being swung. Don't stand behind the player as he is about to play a shot stand off to one side and remain quiet and still so he is able to play a shot without distraction. One of the more important parts of the etiquette of the game is also the place of play and we here many many make complaints about how slow the game golf seems to be and how it take 4-5 hours sometimes up to 5 ½ hours to complete your round. I think what we need to do all of use as players is to make sure we are ready to play our shot when it is our turn and make sure that we move the game along after we have finish holding out we need to move to the next teeing ground to make sure that everybody who is coming behind us has a opportunity to play the green. We don't need to check our scores while we are standing on the green. We could do that while we are not walking the next spare way. Its in come on each one of the players to make sure that there group does not take longer then 4 hours to player out. I think four hours in acceptable time and it gives player all the ability level and opportunity to enjoy the game. Again I think that if you are ready to play at the point and time when it becomes your turn you will be helping move along the play. In addition etiquette requires that we take care of the golf course as we play it. I like to think of it leaving it in a better condition then what you found it. If you play from a bunker you need to rake that bunker to make sure that you leave no foot prints or any indication that you play a shot. If you play a shot from the fair way and you dig up a divide make sure that you put the grass back in the hole or use sand that is available on most golf course see that it blemishes repair. If each of us do these things I think that you see that the game will be better for everyone else who follows. A very very big problem that most of our courses is players would hit ball into the green and they would make a gigantic divides or ball mark and they would ignore it and put out and go to the next tee. I would suggest that each of us has the responsibility to repair the ball marks that we make on each green. While we are there and in the process why don't you repair one other ball mark to make sure that the greens are in there best possible shape for your next round of golf.
