Laying Out a Mosaic Design for a Hand Mirror

I've prepared a lot of small pieces of broken crockery and we're ready now to layout our mosaic design. Ok. The first thing we want to do is the biggest design element in our mosaic, is going to be the mirror in the middle. And, we're using the cookie cutter to work around and this is going to help us hold the grout back when we're grouting. But, for right now we just want to position the mirror. I've just got a piece of mirror that's been broken off randomly. You could probably find a heart shaped mirror in a craft store. You have to look around. But, if don't have you can find a piece of square or a circle. It's doesn't matter. Because, we can cover up the edges that we don't want with crockery and grout. So, I'm going to place it here. And, so I'm going to first trace around with a pencil to mark where I want to put that mirror. And, then we'll put some adhesive on the mirror. Use an adhesive that's good for glass and wood alike. A nice strong adhesive. And, you want to put a nice even layer on the bottom of the mirror. And, then adhere that to the hand. Coat that nicely. And, then just place it right where you traced the outline. And, push it down. Ok. Remove any excess glue on the front and we'll clean that off. Now, you want to measure where the heart shape is going to be. And, we're going to measure from the bottom of the handle and its five and a half inches from the bottom of the handle. So, we'll put our heart shape on our pattern and measure the five and a half inches. And, trace an outline of the heart in the place that we're going to place the heart mirror. And, now we can use this pattern to design our mosaic. At this point, you take the different pieces of broken crockery and we'll be laying it out on the pattern first before we glue it down to make sure that we like the color and the composition of our mosaic.
