Official Golf Club Rules & Restrictions

Hi Gene Mortensen with the Oklahoma Golf Association I'm talking to you about how to apply the rules of golf as you play your next round. In that connection I like to talk to a little bit about rule four which pertains to golf clubs. Essentially each of the clubs that you would be using have been sent to the United States Golf Association to be check in there laboratories at Faros New Jersey and they make a determination that the golf club is suitable for .... at which go into manufacture then begins to manufacture and sell the clubs to the public. In the event that a club has been submitted to Far Hills for examination and not approve or one has not been submitted or approve will result in a disqualification should a player attempt to use that in a stipulated round. According to the rules of golf a player is entitle to carry fourteen clubs. I'm not sure that I could tell you why fourteen was selected. It seems to be a good number. If you have more then fourteen clubs you are in violation of rule and a appropriate penalties would apply. The fourteen club limit does not stipulate the clubs that you are require to carry you could have 6 wedges, 3 drivers and 2 putters. So as long as you don't exceed that limit. If you damage your club because you miss you puck and walking off your green you walk near a tree and bang the putter against the tree and then the shaft and you have damage the club not in the ordinary course of play and you may not use that club again during the steep lated round. If you use the club you will be disqualified. If you damage a club lets say you are hitting a ball and strike a tree with it at the same time so you damage the club while making a shot your are permitted to use that club for the remainder of the round or you may have the club repair and if the club is unfit for play you may actually have it replaced. Going back to the fourteen club rule if you began your round with lets say twelve clubs at anytime during that round you may add two more clubs and again there is no stipulation on what those clubs most be.
