Overview of United States Golf Association Rules

Hi I'm Gene Mortensen I'm the head rule official with the Oklahoma Golf Association. I like to spend a few minutes today with you to assist you in gaining a understanding of how the rules apply to your next round of golf. Before I get started with the actual discussion I like to chat with you a little bit about United State Golf Association and how they prepare the rules. Essentially the United States Golf Association in corporation with the RNA comes up with a set of rules which are amended or possibly changed every four years: in the years which we have presidential elections. They are published in a very small rule book which you would be able to fit in to your golf bag very easily so if you have a situation that comes up they are readily available. A more comprehensive discussion on the rules of golf is found at what they call the Decisions Book. This book is amended or changed and decisions on the rules of golf are included every two years. Another nice publication for you to review in terms in studying the rules of golf is a book also put out by the United States Golf Association and it takes various situations as explained Tom Watson and describes how the rules apply. I would encourage those who are really interested in the rules of golf to go to the USGA website. It is found at www.usga.org.
