Hello I'm Richard on behalf of expertvillage.com I'm going to try to explain the push out in the game of nine ball. After a legal break your first person to the table has the option of pushing out. That is the only time in the game of nine ball that, that option is available. As you can see the balls has been broken. There is no open shot at the one ball. What the push out consist of is pushing the cue ball into any area of the table that you wish without having to contact the ball, without having to pocket the ball this is the only time in the game that this is allowed. Once you have chosen the spot that you want to push out to all you are doing is just bumping the cue ball into a rail or it doesn't have to reach a rail just getting the cue ball out of the way. Like so. Now what this does it gives your opponent the option to approach the table. Your opponent looks at the shot he can either except that shot a open shot at the one ball is what you are left to or he can pass it back to you. So in the instance if your opponent has passed the shot back to you then you would turn a required to make a legal shot on the one ball. Meaning that you must contact the one ball and you can pocket the one ball or drive the one ball to a rail. For strategic purposes it becomes important that you when you are pushing out that you push out into a position on the table that you will have a shot at the one ball though you do not want to leave your opponent a desirable shot but, if he does pass it back to you at less you be able to make a legal contact on that first object ball. A few more things about the push out that I want to be made known is your opponent must be notified of your tensions to push out before the shot. Also when you are pushing out the push out you have to have make a legal hit on the cue ball with the cue stick, and it got to be a legal stroke on the ball as far as pushing the ball out. Another thing is any ball that is pocket during the push out would remain pocketed unless it is the nine ball. The nine ball would be brought up and be spotted on the spot. If the cue ball is pocketed during the push out then it constitutes a foul and your opponent get the cue ball in hand and starts off any where on the table and starts the game from there.
