Protecting the Dribble with your Right Arm in Basketball

When you're dribbling a ball, you always want to keep the ball protected because, one thing coaches really don't like is to see you allowing the ball to get into the hands of the defense. One way for you to do this is to use a protective arm. Now when I say using a protective arm, I don't mean using a protective arm to foul someone or push someone off. I mean just using a protective arm to keep your perimeter protected. Keep your perimeter protected so that the defense, when they're trying to reach in and grab the ball, you have enough space so they can't reach in. So, we're using the left hand on this one and, if you're using the left hand, you have to use the right to protect. So, if you're using the left hand to dribble, you use the right hand to protect and you come down court. This is an effective way players like Magic Johnson were perfect at using this move. He used to come down court using a protective arm, using a protective arm so that you create space and a perimeter so that the defense, when they do try to reach in, the referee can immediately see that they're coming inside your space and he can look for the foul. So, there you have it, left handed dribble with the protective arm.
