Hello I'm Richard on behalf of expertvillage.com I'm going to try to explain the difference between a legal and illegal jump shot. The game of nine ball we are shooting at the three ball, the eight ball is in the way, now I'm approaching the shot. The illegal jump shot consist in coming in and digging underneath the cue ball. When you come in and you try and catch the bottom of the cue ball and raise the cue ball over the eight ball to make that eight to make the three ball that shot is a illegal shot. What is happening actually it is a scoop shot. You are actually lifting up the cue ball, the cue ball is actually riding on the farrow on the cue stick and not going on the tip of the cue stick. What I'm using here is a jump break cue. Take the bunt end of the cue off. The shorter of the stick makes it a little bit easier to jump with. A illegal jump shot consist of coming down the ball and shooting down into the into the table and hoping the ball over the object ball that is in the way. That is the way that you clear the ball legally.
