The Squeeze Drill in Basketball

Whenever you're talking about ball handling you have lots, lots of different drills that you can do to improve. Part of ball handling is really gathering a knack for what the ball feels like. Now we talked a little bit earlier about some balls being leather and some balls being rubber. So generally when you're doing ball handling, one of the best drills for actually getting the feel of the ball is what I call squeeze drill; and the way squeeze drill works is you grab the ball like this up above your head. You raise it up above your head and you squeeze back and forth. You just squeeze with your hand and then as you get better, you can get faster with it. You just squeeze it, squeeze it, squeezing the ball back and forth, back and forth and some coaches will have you go all the way down with it and back up and all around your body or the perimeter. The better you get at this, the better your hands will be with being familiar with how the ball feels. So when you catch the ball, you'll be better able to catch and shoot without loosing the ball or having any other kind of situations going on where you don't have a handle on the basketball and then you'll have defensive pressure. So keep that in mind, the squeeze drill; a great drill to keep your hands familiarized with the basketball.
