Half-Time Shuffle Drum Beat
So, to understand the Half-Time Shuffle, the half-time is all relative and what this means is that in normal twelve-eight counting, where we would play normally a regular full speed pattern, would look like this: one, two, three four. One, two, three, four. What we're doing is we're just going to take that back beat and just play it on three. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One, two, three. So, it gives the feel that it's going only half as fast. So, we'll play a couple measures with back beats on two and four and then switch to the half-time feel. So, that half-time feel is brought on by the fact that in the standard twelve-eight counting, we're playing a back beat just on three. Of course, depending on our counting, it's only half-time related to playing twice as many back beats. So, it's all depending on what time signature we're in, but this whole series, we'll look at those types of beats.
