In our next clip, we're going to be talking about some headgear. And, in the gym please don't let anybody in the ring without the proper headgear. Another tip that we like to handout is, usually about a week before a boxing match we try to switch the boxers from their super protective sparing headgear into one of the actual competition headgear that they're going to be wearing. That gives a boxer a little bit more time to adjust to the more open face of a competition headgear and the strap and the fact that it's not a full face. It gives them a little bit more time to adjust to that. Because, once they get into the ring usually in a match they'll come and sit on the stool and they'll say "Coach Bill, the strap is killing me. This thing just doesn't fit right." So, it gives them a chance to wear their headgear. The sparing headgear that we like to use, is a full face headgear. Which, is going to protect your chin. It's also going to protect your cheeks. And, a good protection over the eyes. And, also the ears are well protected. Usually, if you can take an actual glove and bang it on the front and with someone's nose in there you can actually see that there's quite a bit of protection on a full face headgear. This gives the most protection available when sparing. And, you can still see a little bit clearly throughout the edges here. The competition headgear, a little bit different than the sparing headgear. USA Boxing rules doesn't allow a full face headgear for competition. So, what you're losing is the chin area. So, your more susceptible to uppercuts. This one here has a nice hook and loop closure, a strap on it. But, as you can see once this is on the boxer's head it doesn't give quite as much protection. But, it does give you a lot more view when you're actually competing. So, this would be the competition one. And, we would not use it on a day to day sparing. But, we would use it maybe a couple days before an actual match upcoming match to give the boxers a little bit more getting used to it in advance.
