Let's take a look at a mandolin. This is a standard A type, or teardrop shaped mandolin. The mandolin is copied, string wise, after a violin, except for the fact that it has two of each of the strings tuned to the same pitch where a violin only has one, and that's E, A, D and G. This particular instrument is an entry level instrument that's well made and is quite affordable. It offers a good value to the person because you can get an instrument that looks good, plays well, but is not overly priced. It's all laminate constructions with a high gloss finish and the tuners on the back of this style instrument are open. Better style instruments have tuners that are encased in a die cast housing that offer a little better quality and smoother tuning, however, the price of this instrument prohibits that. This is a standard acoustic A-shaped mandolin.
