This is a French Horn. This instrument is widely used in symphonic works, and you've heard it in practically every good symphonic piece that you've ever listened to. The horn is played with a mouthpiece that the player blows into and controls the pitch with the tension of their lips. Also, the pitch is additionally changed by operating these levers which work rotary valves to change the pitch of the sound coming from the horn. Also, these slides are movable and can be used to helped to tune the instrument as is the case with most of the brasswind instruments. The instrument has to be clean and kept nice and oiled and lubricated as do trumpets, coronets, and all the other brasswind instruments to avoid corrosion and having the slides and mechanisms stop operating properly. So the French horn, a symphonic instrument, it has a great unique tone.
