Now we'll look at a bass clarinet. The bass clarinet is a rather substantially sized instrument that actually has a fitting on the back to put a peg on to assist with the player having set at a height that they can actually manipulate the instrument with. Like other clarinets, it's a woodwind, it has a mouthpiece that attaches to it, and a reed that goes onto it and the player controls the pitch of the tones by controlling the tension on their lips and how they blow into the reed. Additionally, levers control buttons that open and close pads along the air column to control the pitch that the sound is made when the player is operating the levers. So this is a bass clarinet and it's an instrument that's not normally played by beginners.
