Now let's examine a clarinet. This is a standard composite or plastic clarinet which is suitable for beginner and intermediate players. All clarinets are the same size, there's no such thing as a miniature clarinet. The instrument itself is played by controlling the openings with levers and your fingers, and blowing into a mouthpiece that's fitted with a reed at this end. The pitch is controlled by the tension of your lips controlling the reed, and what holes are either open or closed in the instrument. Maintenance is fairly straightforward provided you don't damage anything by banging the instrument into something. Mainly swabbing it out with a good quality silk swab to dry it out after playing before putting away will keep the instrument in good shape.
