In this clip I would want to stress the importance of actually staying a half step away from the heavy bag. What I do is, once I get my boxers in a good stance, I tell them, "Go ahead and hit the heavy bag." So they reach out and just tap the heavy bag. And I say "Okay, if you can hit that heavy bag from where you are, then evidently, you are too close, without moving your feet." Because what happens is, if you stay there and you hit the heavy bag and you hit the heavy bag, you hit the heavy bag, you can also get hit. So what we're going to do instead is, I tell them, "If you can hit the heavy bag from where you are, we're going to take a half step back." So back with your right foot about a half step and half a step with your left foot. Now I tell them, "Go ahead and hit the heavy bag," and one time out of ten, someone will lean way forward and they'll say, "Look, I can still hit it." I'll say, "No, but that's not the point." The point is, shoulders above your knees, half a step away, without moving your feet, you shouldn't be able to hit that heavy bag. So we're going to stay a half a step away. This is the where you can relax a little bit more because you're not going to get hit and you're not going to hit somebody. So, there's more reason to relax. So try to stay a half a step away from there and we'll see where that comes into effect in a few more clips.
