Cutting the Neck Hole for a Child's Poncho

Now I'm going to demonstrate how to cut the neck hole. First you need to find the center of the fabric so we're going to fold our square corner to corner like that and you have a triangle and then this is the center of the poncho. Now for a small child I would cut a two and a half inch slit right along that fold. Right there, just cut that two and a half inch slit. It's better to cut small then to cut large so don't go over because you can always enlarge the hole if you find that it is a little too small but you can't always make the hole smaller if you've cut it too big. We'll put the ruler in there, measure our two and a half inches, and cut like that. Now you can cut a little bit rounded from this slit to this slit. Cut that right off. You need very nice sharp pair of scissors for this fleece making and then you open it up and there's your neck hole. Now it's a good idea to try the poncho on the child and you can enlarge it a little bit at a time as you need it. The fleece fabric is very forgiving and it's fine if you have a little bit of a rough cut because as it stretches that won't show and there's your neck hole.
