Hi, this is Sean Hobson. One thing you have to understand is how important rebounding is to your team. Sometimes you may not be the person that's actually going to box your man out and pull the rebound down, but you can be very important in keeping the ball live for your other teammates and that's what we want to show you right here. The first step, go ahead and give the ball to the offense. One important step is first of all when the shot goes up your going to try as hard as you can to box this man out. Sometimes the guy is going to go around you and your not going to be able to get a good clean box on him. So what you can do is a lot of times you'll be standing side by side with the guy to go up and get the rebound. If you can't go out and actually pull the ball down, one thing that I used to be able to as a smaller guy was I would just get in there and try to tip the ball either to myself or to a teammate. A lot of times and this is what made Dennis Rodman so famous, was he was able to get up there and just keep the ball live or when they were coming down with the rebound he would go in and pop the ball up, he would tip it a couple times to where he got to a clear area and then he would pull the ball down. So what we're going to show you right here is even though he may not get a good box out on the offensive player, he's going to keep the ball live, maybe tip it a couple times to himself or he's got a teammate down here that he could tip the ball to. So let's show them what it looks like. Box him so he can't get it, okay, good. So that time he was able to get a pretty good box on it and this guy could of came in and gotten it, but if the ball would have come up and he would have been contested right here. He could have tried to tip the ball up or could have tipped it out to a teammate or even right there trying to run it down, he could have got out there and he could have just got the ball and knocked it out to his teammates. So sometimes the most important thing isn't just getting the ball, it's keeping it alive.
