One of the most important things about being an offensive player is understanding your role in rebounding. Most people think that once you shoot the ball you're pretty obsolete in the offense. But what is actually true is once you shoot the ball, nobody knows better than you where the ball is going. You have to be a good offensive rebounder, and it all starts with once you made a shot, you've got to follow your shot. Because, obviously, you're at a disadvantage right off the bat. The offensive player is on the outside of the rim, the defensive player always has the outside control, and usually it's the person with the inside position that is the best rebounder. However, we also know that most defensive players don't use very good fundamental skills when rebounding, so most of the time when the shot goes up, this guy defensively will just turn around and look at the rim. As a smart offensive player, once you shoot the ball and realize that you've missed the shot, if you storm in and get it, you can usually run right by the defender because he's not going to be boxing you out, he's just going to be standing in the inside. So we're going to show you right now what it looks like to shoot the ball, follow your shot, storm in, and try to fight for inside position and get the rebound. Alright, here we go guys. Good, so you see that our defender just simply, when the shot went up, he turned around to look to where the ball was at, hoping that it would come right to him. Our offensive player was smart enough that he ran in, he got the offensive inside control, and when the shot is missed, he can get the rebound. And that's the way you can become a good offensive rebounder.
