Youth Basketball Rebounding: Guarding Player

Hi this is Sean Hobson. One thing you have to make sure and understand in order to be a good rebounder the first thing is you always have to know where the player that you're guarding is and that's what we're going to talk about here. The first step of rebounding, once the shot goes up, you've got to make sure that the first thing you do is not turn around and face the basket. So many players when they ball goes up the first thing they do is they turn around and face the basket and then they try to locate a player. The very first thing you've got to do to be a good rebounder is know where the man is, find him first and then you're going to go get it. So, if we've got a man that's playing defense down here and he's playing in help side and the ball is out on the wing and the shot goes up, the very first thing he's got to do instead of turning and putting his back to this player, because what happens is he looks at the backboard, this player is going right by him. So the first thing he has to do is he has to pick up with his eyes and know where his player is at. Once he locates where his player is at, then the next steps can come to becoming a good rebounder but the first thing is you always have to be aware of where the man is that you're rebounding, know where he's at on the floor and then go find him and box him out.
