Youth Basketball Motion Offense: Two Man Game

Hi, this is Sean Hobson and what we're talking about right now is how to effectively run a motion offense. We're giving you some ideas of how to counter defenses and give you some moves within the motion offense to make your motion effective. What we want to talk about right now is a couple of two-man games. If you notice that you've got two players that work really well together and you've got a defender that you think you can beat, than you want to call a two-man game. What we're going to do right here between the guard and the wing, the two-man game, basically, is either a back door or what we call a "give and go". And what we mean by that is, if we're going to do a give and go, this man at the top of the key, Hunter knows that he can take his guy off the cut, so what we want to set up is called a two-man game which means he's going to give him the ball and he's going to cut immediately. He's going to set up his man, he's going to cut to the inside and he's going to give the ball away. Now our post has recognized that these two are going come on a give and go and if we've actually set that up, then we're going to post opposite the ball and then he's just going to cut. The other two-man game we're going to talk about is between the post and the guard. And what this is, a lot of times in our motion, we're going to have our post player flash up high our guard is going to give it to him and then what we're going to have our post player do is just simply step and drop and hand the ball back off to the guard and then the guard will usually be able to take it right in for a layup. All these things come from recognizing what kind of defense they're playing and who is good at beating their defensive player off the dribble or off the cut and then you can work these little two-man games into your motion offense.
