Youth Basketball Motion Offense: One Player Motion

Hi, this is Sean Hobson. What we're talking about right now is how to run a proper motion. We're going to show you a different set up here. Before, we ran what was called a three out, two in motion. This is the type of motion that we use and a lot of times we call this "isolation" and the reason we call this isolation is because we want to find the mismatch. Who on our team has a mismatch? Maybe it's the power forward, maybe it is the center, and maybe it's even the small forward. Whoever we've got in isolation, we're going to call out there name and we're going to yell "iso". And what we mean is, we want whoever has the mismatch to post inside. In this case, we've got one post player, that's why it's called a one in, on the inside and a four out because we've got four out on the perimeter. Right now we have our power forward out in a low spot on the perimeter, we have our two shooting guards, our shooting guard and our small forward up on the wings and we've got our point at the top. That's how you set up a one in, four out motion with the intent to work the ball around the perimeter and get this post player open and that's how we're going to run this motion.
