Common Midwife Misconceptions

Hi! My name is Maureen Browne and on behalf of expertvillage.com. Today in this clip we’re going to discuss what the common misconceptions of what a midwife is. Number 1: A midwife is not just a friend or a supporter through the birth process. She is highly certified medical professional. Choosing a midwife is not radically different or nonconformist. It is a viable option for childbirth. Number 2: Working with a midwife is not an old fashion concept. Midwives are extremely knowledgeable about all modern aspects of health and childbirth. However, there have been schools midwifery in the United States since the 18th century. Finally, number 3: Midwives deal with normal pregnancies. If the pregnancy deviates from normal or there are medical issues, care can be transferred to and obstetrician or to a hospital, and the midwife can still be there as a supportive person in her care.
