Gathering the Materials for a Copper Pipe Xylophone

So now we're going to talk about gathering the materials that we're going to need to make our xylophone. Of course we've already talked about the copper pipe. So, we've prepared and we've got a great length of copper pipe that we're going to use to make our notes. However, there's other things we need to attach everything together and complete the instrument and those are going to be wooden dowels. We're going to need wooden dowels to make our hammers which we're going to use to play. But we're also going to need them as a support to hold the notes into place. The other thing we're going to need is string. We're going to need string because we want something that's thin enough that it's not going to muffle the sound of the note but strong enough to where it's not going to break while we're playing. So we pick for today, we've picked a thick black string, and I like black because it doesn't show up that much when you use white string it just doesn't look as good. It doesn't look professional. Black string, really thick, it's going to do a good job. It's not going to ruin the integrity of our tone. It's going to keep the full-bodied sound of the pipe. And it's really going to have a nice effect when we do that. But, also, there's a couple other things we need. We're going to need drill bits that have the ability to drill through metal. We're going to need a power drill. So without that we are not going to be able to attach our pipes to the holding rod. We're also going to need a ruler because we're going to need to have pretty precise measurements of where we need to make our cuts on the copper pipe. So these are the tools you need to make our copper pipe xylophone.
