The next step in making a copper pipe xylophone, or any xylophone, is picking out what notes you want to include. Today, we're going to make one full octave in the key of C. To do that, we've got to look at a different xylophone and pick out what octave we think is going to sound good. We don't want it too high. We don't want it too low. We want it somewhere in the middle. We're only going to have one octave after all. So, let's take a look here. This right here is a kind of xylophone. It's called an orchestra bells. And we're going to lay a C, since I want to do it in C. Well, I know for a fact that there's a C here. Now that's a nice sharp sound but lower on the scale. I think I like that. Now, if we walk up seven steps, we're going to get to a high C. Now that C is one octave above this C. And that's about as high as I want to go. And this C is about as low as I want to go. So, now that I've determined what octave I want to play in, it's time to start talking about how we're going to accomplish this.
