Practicing a Sea Kayak Roll

In this clip we are going to learn how to learn a roll. You need some stuff first. You need a face mask, a nose plug, paddle float, you also need a friend and some shallow water. These are great tools to first get started to learn how to roll. Russell doesn't like to use a mask or nose plug so I'm going to put those away in his day hatch. If you are going to be practicing underwater a lot a face mask is great because it allow you to open your eyes underwater so that you can see what is going on underneath there. It's a great tool. Another one is a paddle float. This helps us first get used to some of the movements that are required when learning how to roll. We are going to go ahead and do that hip snap stuff again. This time you're going to go more into the water. Put the back of your head in the water and then hip snap up. Russell, I want you to lay the back of your head in the water and then roll the boat off the water first, roll your boat off the water first, and then come up. See that. Let’s try it again. Down. Watch how the boat moves over before his body comes up. This is the last part of a roll. Roll again. Up. Great to practice and warm up for the roll.
