Sea Kayaking: The Draw Stroke

In this clip we are going to learn how to move our boat sideways. The stroke is called a draw stoke. It looks like this. First the set-up. To begin this stroke Russell is going to throw a marker in the water. Before you begin the stroke you want to turn your body in the direction you're going stab the water, pull and then slice out. The next draw stroke is called a submerge draw stroke. That's where the paddle stays under the water the whole time. He slices underwater and then turns the paddle and pulls it toward the boat. The pull towards the boat is what pulls it sideways and the slice allows the paddle to get into position to be pulled.
