Sea Kayaking: The Forward Sweep

The forward sweep: he is going to reach as far as he can; sweep out as far as he can to the stern; and turn his boat to the right. That is a sweep stroke and it turns your boat. He's pressing on the left foot peg, paddling on the left side and is turning his boat to the right. The forward sweep. Russell is looking where he is going, so he's looking over his right shoulder and he has leaned the boat slightly to the left. What this does; it makes a long boat turn easily because it has shortened the water line. We call that edging.
