A Sea Kayak Wet Exit

In this clip we want to show you what you if should do if you come out of you boat on the water. This is called a wet exit. Were going to a swim. We want to teach you how to remain calm and come out and hold on to of your boat and paddle. And then to get back in. So go out with a friend to practice first and get comfortable with being in the water and under the water. So I am going to hold Russel's paddle as he holds it. He is just going to go in the water put his face in the water blow bubbles come back. Just kind of get used to what it feels like. There you go. Then I am going to get on this side. He is going to go even more under water. And now he is going to go completely under the water. See how he taps his fingers? Go under the water tap it tap a song count to ten. It's just water. It's fun we all live water. So the next thing that were going to do is he is going to do is he is going to capsize and come out of his boat. So I am going to hold his paddle first because you have got a lot to think about. What he is going to focus on is when he capsizes he is going to pull this loop. Slide his hands to the back push and come out very slowly. If he could come out on this side that would be great because I would like you to watch how he just floats out of this boat. Ready whenever you are Russel. He's over, push comes out and he is holding on to his boat. And look he is still alive. So were going to try that one more time. This time with a paddle. Now were going to talk about what to do with a paddle. If you happen to get an ought oh moment and you have a second or two before you go in for a swim your going to tuck your paddle under your arm quickly. Then he is going to capsize and bang loudly on the boat so that people know you have capsized. Pull his skirt and float up the surface. Ready whenever you are Russel. He pulls floats and there he is. He is breathing and still in his boat so now he can calmly come out. He has his boat in his hand and his paddle and he is ready to get back in his boat.
