Making Flower Stems for Floral Crafts
Now when you have a lot of little flower shapes, I'll move the scraps out of the way here - you want to take your pipe cleaner and just cut small lengths, 3-4 inches long. And we're going to poke the pipe cleaner in through the center of the flower. You just grasp the fun foam firmly and push the pipe cleaner through, just enough to see the center, just enough to see a little bit of the pipe cleaner. That gives you the center of the flower, and it also attaches the flower to a stem. And you want to do that for all your little flowers. Just poke that right through. Now if you have trouble, if your fun foam is firm or your pipe cleaners are not stiff enough, you can take the skewer and pre-poke holes into your flowers. And then, again, poke the pipe cleaner through the center, just leaving a little bit. Now if you want, you can also pull it a little longer and bend it. And that gives it just a slightly larger center, but the idea is to have a lot of these same flowers, all the same color, all these little flowers. And I've done more, I'm going to put them all together. And then we'll attach this whole bouquet to a skewer. So, we'll attach this whole bouquet of flowers to a skewer. You can twist them on, like this, and then secure them with the tape. OK, you can use the floral tape or you can use any other kind of a tape. And we'll just secure those flowers. And then I'm going to cover the remainder of the skewer. Just hold onto the tape, and you just kind of roll, twirl the skewer, and the tape goes on like that. It's nice tape because the floral tape is not sticky. It doesn't really have a glue to it, it's sort of a waxed tape, so it sticks to itself, but it doesn't stick to anything else. Now once you have your little bouquet on the skewer, now you can arrange your flowers, and you just bend those pipe cleaners down. And you can bend those pipe cleaners down like this in any direction. And this is a great -- it's so pretty, it's a nice filler. And then the whole thing can be poked into a flower arrangement. You can make this as large as you want with all different colors, or stick with one color pattern like this.
