Adding Sunflower Petals to Kids' Crafts
Now let's add our petals to the skewer. You take the petal and take the two flaps from where you slit it, and fold it over like this. Then find the center where you can poke through both flaps, like that, and just slide the petal down. Continue with the rest of your petals, folding over to give the petal a little bit of a shape and then skewering it in the center of both sides of the slit. You just put the skewer right into the center of both of the sides of the flap.
Notice when we're putting our petals onto the skewer, I do it in a certain order. I put the first one here, and the second one opposite, and then the third one in the middle and the fourth one in the opposite, because each petal that you add moves up the skewer a little bit, it moves up like this. You want to just vary that so it's not a spiral, but that it's alternating. Continue in that sort of a pattern, putting the fifth one over the first one.
It's not critical that you do this, and you can always move the petals around just the way you like it. You can look at it, and if it looks out of balance, you can move the petals and twist them around anyway you like. So get all your petals on and then we'll take a look at it. We'll trim it up and then we'll add a center.
