Adding Petals to Flower Kids' Craft
Our next step for making our basic flower is we're going to put it together onto a skewer, so you need a nice bamboo skewer with a good point. Take one of these flower bases that we've made and just poke it through like this on the skewer. You can go down about three inches. Starting with the largest petal, you want to take where we slit it, here, and fold it over each other, so you have...see how it gives a little bit of a rounded shape to the petal? Then you take your skewer and you pierce right through the center of these two pieces and slide it down onto the skewer. You can twist as you go, and that almost drills through the Fun Foam. The Fun Foam is very soft, very pliable. It's very easy to poke the skewer through. You can stick it in there and just give it a little twist and push it down. You want to put all your petals on in this way. Fold it over. Pierce it through the middle so that you go through the middle of the bottom one and the top one, like that, and then we'll arrange. So you take your petal, like this, and you fold it over. Then you pierce it through the middle. See how it comes up through the middle of both of those flaps? Then you can arrange your petals like that. When you get all five petals on, then we'll do a center. Now you can...you just move the petals around until you're happy with the arrangement on the stick. You can add more petals to this. You can change the shape of the petals. You can shape your petals in any way you want. So if you think this is sticking out a little too much, you can just take your scissor and trim until you're happy with what your flower looks like.
