Tracking Methods for Skydiving & Free Flying
Hi welcome to Expert Village my name is Nicholas Daniel. Tracking: not is it very fun but it is also very functional. Let's say that you jump out with three other buddies out of the plane you got a little four way going on. Now as it comes to pull time you need to make sure you don't have anybody around you. So when your are under canopy you want to have as much separation as possible. So what we do we use a track. Meaning a really fast forward movement. You want to make sure you can get away from everybody. In the beginning when we started learning how to track we do what we call a delta track meaning if this was to top view, you have arms and legs fairly wide but everything is sort of spread behind you, meaning you are going to get a lot of lift to one side and you are just go across the sky in a forward movement. Later on when we get a little bit more skilled at it we try to put our legs a little closer together and bring our arms in a little bit more further. What this does it gives you a little bit more lift. Generally when we take two objects such as two wings we bring them closer together they generate a little bit more lift. Now in a track what we are looking for we are looking for a lot of lift. Generally that gives us a little more forward movement. Looking at the track the tracking position from the side you basically you want to look for a sail. You want to kind of have a upward and forward momentum that you can build up. There is a lot of different ways that you can work on those body shapes. Generally a lot of people want to kind bring in their chest, bring there shoulders in like this, have their head down, and then you want to basically bring your hands in. There are a lot of different methods as you could do with your toes, you can bring them out like this, you can point them, there is many many different way you just want to find what is right for you give the fact that everybody is a different body shape. In a track it is very important that you get a lot of distance. Let's say you have your four way right here you want to make sure you can get away from everybody. Now you want to make sure you get a lot of separation so when you open you don't have any canopy collisions which are very very bad. Things to look out for is when you go to track you don't want to go into a dive. Now if you were to go into a dive instead of tracking out in this direction where this person open you would kind of come down this way. Now if there is another person that does the same thing and goes down into a dive you are going to be much closer together than what if you would have a little more outward movement going out this way.
