The Tomahawk Disc Throw

Next we're going to talk about different ways of throwing discs and different grips for throwing discs. Ok, so now we're going to demonstrate the tomahawk and the tomahawk is used primarily to get over vegetation. Its a good distance shot, I know people who can throw 200 to 400 feet. I can throw 200 feet, but I try to stay away from the tomahawk unless I absolutely need it. Once of the most important things of throwing a tomahawk is creating a good seal with your fingers on the inside track. So for me, getting my fingers squished into the track and using my index finger to support that and then using the outside edge on the thumb track and where my finger's at, is just squeezing as hard as I can. Now throwing a tomahawk is just like throwing a football. Throwing a 20 yard pass straight ahead is the same thing that you want to create with the disc. The frisbee's going to fly in a pendulum sweep upside down throw. Its great to get through trees, get over trees, all kinds of stuff. Its just like throwing a football. One of the great things of throwing a tomahawk is the fact that when the disc lands on the ground, it lands on the flight plate, which means that the disc is going to bump and slide. Its not going to get thrown around, its going to land on its top side which is the soft side, and if you throw in the right conditions, if you've got grass that's dry or you've got dirt, whatever, when you throw that shot, its going to land on its flight path and its going to scoot and extra 20 to 30 feet mostly.
