Choosing a Disc for Disc Golf

So what I would like to talk about is some of the different kinds of plastics out there. Now for me, I know that I'm a little biased because I throw a Nova, which is got a big competitor out there in Discraft and some of the other discs out there. But for Nova, there are many different kinds of grades of plastic that are used. Here, this one right here is actually DX plastic. So the DX plastic is not going to be as durable, its going to get beat up a little easier, its going to break in a lot quicker which means if you're dealing with an over stable disc, its going to become more under stable. And from there, you go to your star plastic or your pro plastic I mean. And your pro plastic would be a little bit more of an upgrade. You're dealing with a softer plastic. Its a little bit more durable. Flight characteristics seem to hold a little bit longer. From there, we got this is champion plastic. Now champion plastic is one of the newer plastics that Nova came out with. This is the candy plastic because you can see through it. It lasts for a long time, these discs can get hit into trees for a long time and still hold the same characteristics. Now my favorite plastic out of them all though, would be the star plastic and that's the newest plastic out there. It seems to be the most durable, the most consistence. I try to throw just champion and star plastic. A lot of the newer discs that I get are star plastic just because it seems that the star plastic is a little harder to learn and I like the challenge of learning the hardest disc because then when I go down in grade of plastic, I seem to excel really well at it. So, star plastic is the top of the line. Champion plastic I think they're equal. I don't really see any difference to me personally, but the star, the champion, the pro and the DX. Those are the four grades of plastic. I would say for any beginner out there, go get yourself DX plastic. Don't mess around with any of the star champion plastic right away until you really know what you're doing, until you figure out what disc works for you. Its going to take a lot of time and a lot of investment, but DX plastic is a good starter for beginners and then the pro and the star and the champion.
