Sewing Drawstrings in Jewelry Bags
Now I'm going to show you how to make this drawstring stop. We made these marks on here, if you can remember we marked it in half. That's 1-1/2 inch here, 1-1/2 inch here. Here are my extra marks that mark 1/2 inch, 1/2 inch. If you look at this one you can tell that the center seem goes right in between two drawstrings, and that's this seem right here. The edges right here that I turned under, are the first set of 1/2 inch marks away from the center that we made. What I want you to do is just fold that in half right here. I'm just going to put a pin there and then, on the other side, you want to fold that one right there and it's a little bit like that a lot. But we're not ready to sew it yet. We're going to put a pin here. If you look at the back side of it you still have this piece which is not folded under. What you need to do is fold it under, right there, and not even half an inch, maybe a little bit less so you can still have your opening. That's how it's going to look before you even sew it. The idea is when you sew it you're going to sew it right down the middle and it's going to close that back part of it. If it doesn't meet exactly right there, that's Okay. What I'm going to go ahead and do, is run this seem right down the center, and make sure you back tack right here because it's going to be used a lot. I think I just poked myself, but that's Okay, I do it all the time. Let's pull it out and see what it looks like. I think it turned out really good. Now, our next step is going to be running the drawstrings through these two little casings. But, of course, we'll use our safety pins and that will make it a lot easier. We'll do that next.
