Ironing Handle & Drawstring Fabric for Jewelry Bags
Okay, on the strap we have it cut out now, and I think to make it easier for us to top sew this, we're going to go ahead and press it closed, exactly the way we want it to be sewn. So I'm going to turn over one side, one and a quarter inch--I'm just going to measure just to make sure, yep, that's one and a quarter. And I'll just turn this side over to meet it, and I'll know that they're exactly the same size because it's--I cut it to five inches. There you go. And it doesn't have to be exactly perfect because it's going to be on the inside. We'll iron these sides closed, and then we'll fold it over again. Okay. This is where we want this side to meet this side. And if they don't meet exactly perfectly in the middle, it won't really matter, because you won't see that on the inside. There we go, and that's going to make it real easy for us to do a little top sewing and close this. It'll just lay right on top. There we go, and let's go ahead and press down the drawstring also. This one might be a little more difficult because it's long and skinny, so I'm just going to do one side at a time. I'm going to do a little start here. I like to get started and measure it--yep, half an inch. After you've seen half an inch for a while, you kind of recognize what it looks like. And like again, this doesn't have to be perfect. If one, if it maybe it turns out to be three-quarters of an inch wide, that would be okay. Okay, and we're almost done with this one side. Here we go. I really like making my own straps and drawstrings for purses and things like that, because it gives it a nice homey--home, handmade feel to it, as opposed to just buying some nylon cord to go through it. Which you can if you wanted to, but it's fun to make this kind of stuff. Here we go. Okay, so all I'm going to do is fold this thing over one more time, and then we'll have the drawstrap--the drawstring. There we go... I just like to meet these two right here and give it that iron right there on top. And if you don't do it perfectly, or the way you want it, the good thing about this, you can just open it up and iron it out, and start over if you wanted to. But even if it wasn't straight, it's so long that you really won't be able tell if it's not just exactly half an inch. And most of it will be inside the little drawstring casing anyways. There we go. Got a little bit more to go. I think what we'll do next after this, maybe I'll show you how to top sew these, and we'll have our strap, our handle strap and our drawstring ready to go, so.
