Summary: The various strains and versions of Middle Eastern Dance have become commonly referred to as Belly Dancing in the West, despite the multiple origins and cultural mysteries. It is generally accepted that the tribal and religious dances that we recognize as belly dancing originated in Egypt, though it's also true that Turkey and the Roma people practiced versions as well. Expert: Nadia Moussa, an international Middle Eastern Dance artist, has performed throughout the U.S. and internationally in Moscow, St. Petersburg, Belarus and the Caribbean. Moussa has been featured in the media on MTV, in numerous magazine and newspaper articles, and stars in the highly praised instructional belly dance video series: BlissDance: The Ecstatic Bellydance Workout. She and Cartouche, her dance company, have performed for many celebrities, including Sarah Jessica Parker and the Sex and the City cast, 'N Sync, and Jane's Addiction. Moussa has also performed at Lincoln Center, the Public Theatre, Madison Square Garden and Joyce Theater Soho.
