Summary: Midwifery began in Europe in the 18th century when women began to prefer a female presence through the birth process. A midwife is a person that assists a woman through pregnancy and beyond. They are there for moral, spiritual and physical guidance and support and are a base of knowledge for the mother-to-be. A midwife's responsibilities include preparing the mother for the birth, attending the birth and assisting the mother with the difficulties of labor and even postpartum care for both the mother and infant. They are licensed specialists that help a mother have a healthy pregnancy and a more bearable birth.

The presence of a midwife through the birth process decreases the possibility of injury during childbirth greatly and is a source of comfort through such a difficult process. This free video series will provide you with tips and information about how to find a midwife and what to expect from her. It will cover estimated costs and teach you why there is more to a midwife than most people think and how to decide if one is right for you.
