Summary: Tennis originated in Europe in the late 1800's, and spread quickly throughout the English speaking world, particularly among the wealthy. It is now an Olympic sport and is played by people in many countries and social classes. Played on a flat court made of grass, clay or concrete, tennis players use a stringed rackets to pass a rubber, felt-covered ball back and forth over a net. The rules of tennis and the basic techniques of the players have remained relatively unchanged since the beginning of the game.

When a tennis player has a ball hit directly at them, they usually won't get much power on their return. With that in mind, it's always beneficial for a tennis player to hit a tennis ball at their side. In this free video series, a tennis coach will teach you a few drills to help you practice hitting the ball at your side. You'll learn how to hit forehands and backhands at the side, and how to hit both strokes in the scoot drill. The scoot drill will force a tennis player to move so that the ball is set up to be hit at their side. With these tips and techniques, you'll always be in a position to provide a powerful and accurate shot in tennis matches.
