Summary: Breastfeeding is the feeding of an infant or baby with milk from a woman's breasts. Babies have a sucking reflex that enables them to suck and swallow milk. With few exceptions, human breast milk is the best source of nourishment for babies. National governments and international organizations promote breastfeeding as the best method of feeding infants in their first two years and beyond. Most U.S. states now have breastfeeding laws, which allow a mother to breastfeed her baby anywhere she is allowed to be.

In this free video series our expert will show you how to breastfeed in public. Maintaining the privacy of you and your baby is not always easy for breastfeeding mothers, but our expert lactation educator will offer some great tips for public breastfeeding. Learn how to maintain the proper breastfeeding position in public, and get tips on privacy props, such as nursing shawls, nursing cover ups, and various nursing tops. You will also learn about public breastfeeding with a pregnancy band, ring sling and baby wrap. If you are a new mother having trouble with public breastfeeding, let our expert on lactation give you the tips you'll need to feed your baby anywhere you go.

About the Expert

Expert: Laine Podell–Camino MA, CLE, CIIM, is the owner of A Mother’s Haven. She has Masters Degrees in Parent-Infant Education, and Deaf Education. She has studied and taught Early Childhood Development and Education since 1991. Prior to opening A Mother’s Haven, she was with Los Angeles Unified School District educating parents of young children for more than a decade. She worked with families of hearing-impaired infants in the areas of parenting, child development and language development in group and one–to–one settings. Additionally, Laine has been an Adjunct Professor at California State University in Northridge, teaching Early Childhood Special Education and Deaf Education graduate students for the Special Education Department.Laine became a Certified Lactation Educator through UCLA after experiencing her own challenges to breastfeed her son, Zachary. Zachary had been given many bottles during his brief stay in the NICU and was not latching on to the breast properly.
